Every year there are quite a few international travelers who come to Standing Rock, as well as American travelers who want to get to know their own country better, including life on a reservation. In addition to the many fossils and displays on exhibit in the Museum proper that would be of interest to any and all travelers, we have our brand new gift shop. Our Museum Gift Shop not only has lots of interactive dinosaur toys, books, puzzles and models, but we have a fine collection of locally crafted Native American beadwork, quilts, and jewelry. Our museum & gift shop fits nicely into the mix of current tourist attractions at Standing Rock. The tribe has two gaming venues, Prairie Knights Casino and Resort (located 15 minutes from the Institute/Museum) and the Grand River Casino and Resort (located approximately 45-50 minutes from the Institute/Museum). The casinos encourage their visitors to stay a few extra days and tour the Reservation to learn more about the culture and rich history surrounding the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Also, Standing Rock's primary North/South highway, 1806, has been designated as a National Native Scenic Byway that has been in existence for six years, with well-marked turnouts, maps, interpretive and cultural events throughout the year.
